Year 5

In Year 5, French is taught by a specialist French teacher for half an hour a week. The main theme throughout the year is asking questions, which enables the pupils to interview each other and engage in class surveys.

Focus topics: French alphabet and how do you spell it, where do you live survey, writing role plays, days of the week, months of the year, when is your birthday survey, fruit, opinions, pet survey, numbers up to 60, places in the locality, directional vocabulary, parts of the body + adjectives.

Grammar focus: Prepositions, adjectival endings, coordinating conjunctions.

Intercultural understanding: Christmas in France; Easter in France; Bastille Day; Story of ‘Le rat des champs et le rat des villes’ (Town Mouse and the Country Mouse); Story of ‘La Chenille qui fait des trous’ (The Hungry Caterpillar).
