The children compose, perform and appraise, and listen to a range of high-quality music.

The children compose short pieces of music which express their ideas and feelings. They perform increasingly technical music with control and expression. They communicate their awareness of simple structural and expressive devices in the music they create and hear. Children in Year 4, continue to develop their recorder playing, extending their range of notes and understanding of staff notation. The inter-related dimensions of music form a key part of the vocabulary used.
