Year 3

Focus areas: ‘Light’, ‘Forces’, ‘Earth and Space’, ‘Rocks’, ‘Plants and Animals including humans’.

The children develop their investigative skills by carrying out a range of enquiries through the year. They explore every day uses of magnets and springs and identify light sources and changing shadows.  They compare and group different types of rocks and describe how fossils are formed. They will attend a 'Rock Detectives' workshop held at Shrewsbury Museum.  They describe the movement of the Earth and its place in the solar system.  They begin to explain day and night.  In the summer term they study the life cycles of green plants and their requirements for healthy growth.  The children also study the main parts and functions of a skeleton.
