Focus areas: ‘States of Matter’, ‘Sound’, ‘Animals including Humans’, ‘Working Scientifically’, ‘Living Things and their Habitats’ and ‘Electricity’.

The children develop their investigative skills through carrying out a range of scientific enquiries.

During the unit on ‘States of Matter’, the children learn about the properties of solids, liquids and gases and processes such as evaporation and condensation. During the unit on ‘Sound’, they explore how sounds are made, volume and pitch. During the unit on ‘Animals including Humans’, the children study the human digestive system, different types of teeth and feeding relationships. The ‘Working Scientifically’ unit includes enquiries relating to forces and a visit to RAF Cosford Museum. During the unit on ‘Living Things and their Habitats’, the children classify living things and explore their local environment. The unit on ‘Electricity’ includes constructing simple electrical circuits.
