Oxon CE Primary School

Year 5

Focus areas: ‘What do rivers do for us?’ and ‘Is it good idea to live near a river?’

The children continue to develop their geographical awareness of Britain, Europe and the world. They learn about the parts of a river system and study in detail the course of the River Severn and the River Danube. Whilst studying these rivers the children consider their importance for human settlement and economic activity and also examine the problems associated with river management such as flooding and pollution. The children visit Carding Mill Valley to study a stream system using a range of fieldwork skills.
