Mathematics
We are committed to providing a full and ambitious mathematics curriculum which is broad and balanced, enabling children to apply competently mathematical knowledge and skills. We aim to ensure that all pupils become fluent in the fundamentals of mathematics, can reason mathematically and can solve problems by applying their mathematics to a variety of problems.
The maths curriculum covers many different strands of mathematics including number, measurement, geometry, statistics, ratio and proportion, and algebra.
We are particularly committed to enabling children to apply their mathematical skills and knowledge within problem solving situations from an early age. This reflects our belief that learning is more meaningful for children where they can see a purpose for it.
Children are encouraged to make connections across mathematical ideas to solve problems. They are provided with opportunities to apply their knowledge to other subjects. We aim to help all children feel confident as mathematicians, to enjoy working mathematically, and to develop a positive and curious attitude towards the subject.
