Year 1
Focus areas: ‘Farms in the past’, ‘Homes in the past’, ‘Transport in the past’.
During history sessions, the children begin to develop an understanding of the past using a range of sources and artefacts. They compare farming in the past with more modern methods as part of causation and change. The children also look at the differences between their homes and those in the past. Visits to Acton Scott historic working farm and Attingham Park help them to make comparisons. A journey on a steam train links to work on transport in the past. Throughout their learning they consider the evidence that helps explain how we know about the past.
